Transformers: The Last Knight is just a couple of weeks away from hitting theaters. And while the film might be Michael Bay’s last time directing the Robots in Disguise, it might mark the beginning of a brand new crossover no one expected to see.
Well, either that, or there’s a curious case of “borrowing ideas” going on.
The final trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight is loaded with some dramatic and action-packed moments from the new film, but one particular moment makes it seem like the Galactic Empire is aiding in a hostile takeover of planet earth.
If you check out the trailer above (skip to the :41 second mark) you’ll notice some drones that look eerily similar to the TIE Bombers from Empire Strikes Back.
The ships were only briefly glimpsed in the second Star Wars movie—dropping ordinance on large asteroids with the hopes of destroying or drawing out the Millennium Falcom from hiding—but they’ve since become popular among fans.
Are Michael Bay and Paramount asking for a lawsuit from Disney? Or is this a respectful nod toward one of the most popular franchises in the world? Or maybe no one in the production has ever even heard of Star Wars?
Either way, now we just want to see Optimus Prime go up against Darth Vader.
Expect Marvel and IDW to announce a crossover comic should this generate enough interest. Hey, if the Green Lantern Corps can visit the Planet of the Apes, well, as Kevin Garnett said: ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

Transformers: The Last Knight's voice cast includes Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, John Goodman as Hound, and John DiMaggio as Crosshairs. Other transformers appearing the film include Bumblebee, Drift, Hot Rod, Cogman, Canopy, Sqweeks, Grimlock, Megatron, Barricade, Onslaught, Hooligan, and Mohawk.
