Is The Latest Transformers Trailer Ripping Off Star Wars?

Transformers: The Last Knight is just a couple of weeks away from hitting theaters. And while the film might be Michael Bay's last time directing the Robots in Disguise, it might mark the beginning of a brand new crossover no one expected to see.

Well, either that, or there's a curious case of "borrowing ideas" going on.

The final trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight is loaded with some dramatic and action-packed moments from the new film, but one particular moment makes it seem like the Galactic Empire is aiding in a hostile takeover of planet earth.

If you check out the trailer above (skip to the :41 second mark) you'll notice some drones that look eerily similar to the TIE Bombers from Empire Strikes Back.

The ships were only briefly glimpsed in the second Star Wars movie—dropping ordinance on large asteroids with the hopes of destroying or drawing out the Millennium Falcom from hiding—but they've since become popular among fans.

Are Michael Bay and Paramount asking for a lawsuit from Disney? Or is this a respectful nod toward one of the most popular franchises in the world? Or maybe no one in the production has ever even heard of Star Wars?

Either way, now we just want to see Optimus Prime go up against Darth Vader.

Expect Marvel and IDW to announce a crossover comic should this generate enough interest. Hey, if the Green Lantern Corps can visit the Planet of the Apes, well, as Kevin Garnett said: ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

Transformers: The Last Knight opens in theaters on June 21, 2017.

Transformers: The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).

There comes a moment in everyone's life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.

Mark Wahlberg and Stanley Tucci will reprise their roles from Transformers: Age of Extinction. Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro reprise their roles for the first three Transformers movies. The film also stars Isabela Moner, Laura Haddock, Anthony Hopkins, Santiago Cabrera, Liam Garrigan, Jerrod Carmichael, and Mitch Pileggi.

Transformers: The Last Knight's voice cast includes Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, John Goodman as Hound, and John DiMaggio as Crosshairs. Other transformers appearing the film include Bumblebee, Drift, Hot Rod, Cogman, Canopy, Sqweeks, Grimlock, Megatron, Barricade, Onslaught, Hooligan, and Mohawk.
