Warwick Davis Playing Legends Character In Rebels

Announced this past weekend at Star Wars Celebration, the upcoming fourth season of Star Wars Rebels will, sadly, be its last. Director Dave Filoni assured fans that the upcoming series would be pulling out all the stops to give fans a fulfilling conclusion to the favorites characters' stories, but we also learned a few new characters would be joining the fray. Notably, one new character is not only an established threat, but will be voiced by Star Wars veteran Warwick Davis.

Warwick Davis debuted in the Star Wars saga as Wicket the Ewok in Return of the Jedi spending much of his screentime alongside Carrie Fisher. His enthusiasm for the series led to him scoring brief roles in The Phantom Menace, The Force Awakens, and even Rogue One, while also regularly hosting Star Wars panels when appearing at conventions.

During a fateful conversation during a Star Wars Rebels panel at last year's Celebration, Davis made his desires to voice a character in the series quite clear, even giving a mock audition to Dave Filoni for all fans to see.

Davis' persistence paid off, as Filoni brought him into the world of Rebels to voice the treacherous Rukh.

The deadly assassin was initially introduced in the novel Heir to the Empire, in which he worked closely with Grand Admiral Thrawn, the main villain of Season 3. Another point worth mentioning is that, for as close a partnership as Rukh and Thrawn have, the assassin goes on to kill Thrawn in the '93 book The Last Command.

Considering both of those books are part of the Legends facet of the Star Wars universe and not technically canon, we can assume Rebels will go in a few different directions with Rukh's story.

Davis is far from the only Star Wars actor to join the ranks of Rebels, with Billy Dee Williams, Forest Whitaker, and James Earl Jones all lending their vocal talents to the show.

Whatever direction Filoni goes with Rukh, we can't wait to see what he has in store for the upcoming season, which is sure to be as riveting and exciting as the previous three seasons.
