If you watched the preview for the next episode of The Walking Dead, 'Swear', you may be wondering what kind of terror Tara and Heath have gotten wrapped up in.

If you're a comic reader, the clue you have might be freaking you out.

If you aren't aware, The Walking Dead comics unveil a terrifying group of villains in the later issues of the series. The Whisperers are an animalistic group of people who wear suits made of zombie-skin to blend in with hordes.

Yes, if you're wondering, they wear the faces too.

The Whisperers are incredibly dangerous, and there's a group in this preview that looks eerily similar to the villains.

As the preview shows Heath and Tara's adventures, Tara is seen running from these off-color zombies. Another woman, who looks like a new character, is then seen shooting them from on top of a car.

Are these The Whisperers?

Unfortunately, no, these aren't The Whisperers.

The group of villains don't show up for a while in the comics, so it wouldn't make sense for them to show up so early on the live-action series. The Walking Dead's producer/showrunner Scott Gimple assured fans that The Whisperers wouldn't be showing up for a little while. They may come early, but not this early.

In an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com's Walking Dead Insider Brandon Davis, Gimple had this to say:

"If we've gotten this far without saying anything about them, I'd like the audience to discover this group when it's on screen," said Gimple. "I will say ... I mean, it's not the Whisperers. I will also say, though, that it's not impossible that the Whisperers could come along or aspects of them could come along earlier than the timeline of the book, but certainly not this early."

So what are these creepier-looking zombies?

From the looks of these monsters, and the context given throughout the off-season, these zombies are just caked in sand.

It's pretty common knowledge that the community discovered by Tara in Heath is by the ocean. The Walking Dead has also proven that walkers can live underneath soft substances. In season four, Meghan was killed when a zombie rose from beneath the clay.

These walkers could be doing the same thing, but after being buried by sand.
