When you're in a relationship, it's custom to give your partner gifts - even in the apocalypse. However, Rick's latest gift to Michonne was a bit of a mystery to Walking Dead fans.
When Rick and the others were leaving the junkyard, after Rick defeated Winslow, Rick grabbed a statue of a cat. There were various sculptures scattered around the junkyard, but he chose the feline to hand to Michonne.
Rick told her that he was getting it to replace the one that she lost, and that had fans extremely confused. What did Michonne lose?
Well, a couple of things.
First, she did lose a cat statue earlier on in the show. The character stole a rainbow cat from a bar near the prison, and she said she really liked it.
When the prison fell, all of the group's belongings were destroyed - cat included.
This is the obvious loss that Rick could be referring to, and it most likely is. However, there's an even deeper cut that the show could be calling back to.
When Michonne first appeared on the show, she had two walkers attached to her at all times. While the men used to be Michonne's boyfriend and brother, she referred to them as her 'pets'.
This is what Rick was getting at when he have Michonne the piece. The cat can be her new pet, since she lost her others.
This Easter Egg is a big throwback for fans, as Michonne's pets haven't been mentioned since the third season of the show.
