Earlier this week, it was announced that Josh McDermitt was among the actors cast in the new Twin Peaks series coming to Showtime in 2017. Naturally, fans of The Walking Dead set the internet on fire with speculation regarding the casting's significance in relation to McDermitt's role as Eugene on the AMC series.

Actors are The Walking Dead are not allowed to have recurring roles on separate series but they are allowed to make appearances or film movies when they are not tied to the Atlanta set of the apocalypse in Alexandria. So, does McDermitt's casting in Twin Peaks signify Eugene's farewell on The Walking Dead? No.

Take a look at the list of actors cast. It contains 217 names. 217. How much screen time can 217 actors possibly share in one hour? While some will obviously be larger than others, there's no concrete evidence from the casting which indicates McDermitt will be bowing out of his role as Eugene Porter.

McDermitt's fellow cast member, Ross Marquand, who plays Aaron, will be appearing on The Mindy Project soon. Does that mean Aaron is dead? No, it doesn't.

We're not ruling out the possibility of Eugene being the victim of Negan's home run swing. In fact, there's some significant evidence in The Walking Dead's story which points to him being the victim. We're just saying that McDermitt taking on another role to keep his acting reel diverse isn't the concluding factor.

The Walking Dead will return in October and Twin Peaks is set to premiere in 2017.
