'Fear The Walking Dead' Showrunner Addresses Crossover Plans

Following the announcement of Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead's "World's Collide" crossover event, fans of the AMC shows are searching desperately for clues regarding which character from which show will join the other. Fear's showrunner Dave Erickson is more among the fans than some may think.

While theories are aplenty, such as Abraham Ford joining Fear the Walking Dead to unveil his journey to the meeting Eugene or Fear's Alicia Clark heading east to meet Maggie Rhee, the showrunner insists Season 3 of Fear the Walking Dead was not built around heading towards a crossover.

"I had suspicions but it was not something that I was considering when we were breaking Season 3," Erickson told ComicBook.com. "I'm gonna be watching as a fan moving forward and I'm curious to see what they do."

As for what he hopes to see when the two worlds collide, Erickson says he has "no expectation" but is excited to see his series possibly get a boost from integrating the largest show on cable to Fear's story.

"I think it's a good thing for the show," Erickson said. "I think it's something that's going to hopefully galvanize both our modest fanbase and then the much larger Walking Dead fanbase. We'll see what they do. It's interesting because we'd always assumed just because of geography, because of timeline... You can pull anything off but I'm curious to see how they do it."

Still, the crossover may have been planned far ahead of the announcement at New York Comic Con. Ahead of Fear the Walking Dead's third season, it was announced it would be Erickson's last as showrunner while Andrew Chambliss of Once Upon a Time and Ian Goldberg of Dead of Summer will step into his place but the true sign was when The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple joined as an executive producer on the sibling series.

"It's out of my hands," Erickson said of the series beyond this Sunday's Season 3 finale. "It's an interesting transition because I don't know where Scott, Ian, and Andy are going to take it so, for me, what I tried to do was wrap things up emotionally and thematically."

The Season 3 finale of Fear the Walking Dead airs Sunday night at 9 pm ET on AMC. The Walking Dead will return for its eighth season on October 22, 2017.
