Fans hoping to see Morgan Jones kill again on The Walking Dead might be in for a heavy dose of "be careful what you wish for."
The character, played by Lennie James since the first season of the AMC series, dropped his "all life is precious" creed in the Season Six finale before fully abandoning it in the Season Seven finale a year later. His spear and fighting skills took out countless Saviors and Scavengers in the Alexandria Safe-Zone as the survivors chased the bullies out of town.
During a visit to the set of The Walking Dead's 100th episode, ComicBook.com heard some interesting perspective on the new Morgan Jones from James when the actor was asked if we should be worried about who he might kill going forward.
"I think we're certainly going to find out," James said. "I think that there was a point last season when Morgan went to say goodbye to Carol, and turned up on her doorstep and said, 'Do you want to know what really happened to Abraham and Glenn?' And it was a moment when he was saying goodbye because, at that point, his mission was to walk in a straight line and kill every Savior that he comes across. I'm not sure that he's deviated from that path necessarily at the moment."
Still, James says fans should "be careful what you wish for."
"Somebody made the analogy of what Morgan was going through is almost like a 12-step program," James said. "Because he knows who he is. You know, Morgan's decision to not kill was never about cowardice, it was never about fear. The only fear he had is the fear of who he is, and what he's like and what he does when he's killing."
In Season Eight, Morgan will be "trying to hold that beast at bay," but it's something James likens to unforgettable super hero arcs from DC and Marvel comic books. "It's a bit like, you know, good Superman and bad Superman, or Spider-Man and Venom."
"I think Morgan is kind of, he's at this particular moment in time, kind of depending on who's in front of him, is flipping between Spider and Venom."0comments
