On Sunday, things are going to be turned on their head for The Walking Dead. When the hit AMC series returned for its seventh season last year, fans watched as their favorite characters were forcibly subjugated by Negan and his band of Saviors. The leather-clad villain was little more than a tyrant to Rick Grimes and his fellow survivors - but the leader is ready to make a stand. When the show's midseason premiere hits on Sunday, Rick will be gearing up to beat back Negan, and one executive producer is taking a moment to comment on the impending war.
Recently, Gale Ann Hurd did a Q&A about The Walking Dead, and it was there that she dished details about Rick's battle plans. When asked if the survivors were ready to take on Negan, Hurd answered with a resounding, "Absolutely."
"The survivors not only want to rise up, [but] they're going to take it to Negan," she stressed. "They need a few things. They need to enlist compatriots who are going to go to war with them and they also need weapons because, sadly, they don't have enough of either. I think we're going to see them solve that problem — or at least attempt to," Hurd said.
Later on, Hurd also took a moment to address the challenges Rick will face trying to recruit soldiers to his side. The leader will attempt to persuade Ezekiel and Gregory to go to war, and Hurd said one of them men will be much more willing than the other.
"Ezekiel's a fantastic leader. He's someone who will take a great deal of time and effort considering what Rick is asking. Gregory, on the other hand, is a coward. He's not really a leader. All he wants to do is defend his position, and I think anything that puts his life or his leadership at risk sounds like a really bad idea to him. So, I'd have to go with Gregory."
