Over seven seasons of post-apocalyptic action, there’s been no shortage of heart-wrenching scenes on the Walking Dead. From the first few episodes where Morgan attempts to shoot his zombified wife, to the seventh season premiere when Negan brutally murdered two beloved survivors, and everything in between—the show is emotionally taxing for viewers to watch.
But what about the actors? What were some of their most difficult scenes to shoot in the making of the show?
At the 2017 Walker Stalker Con in London, actors Chandler Riggs and Andrew Lincoln answered a few questions from fans during a panel. One fan asked the onscreen father-son duo what the saddest scene they’ve ever filmed was, and Riggs answered without hesitation.
“For me, it was Lori’s death. That- it sucked so much, for both me and Lauren [Cohen, who plays Maggie], really, because we were both there,” Riggs said. He then motioned to Rick Grimes actor Lincoln. “And it was hard for you, too.”
“Well, yeah,” Lincoln answered. “She was my wife.” The response prompted the crowd to laugh. “Wasn’t a walk in the park.”
“She’s just my mom,” Riggs responded with a laugh.
“She slept with my best friend, yes, but she was still my wife,” Lincoln said.
“It’s ok,” Riggs replied with a hand to his onscreen dad’s shoulder before the questions continued.
There are bound to be even more difficult scenes as the show heads into its seventh season finale.
