Riverdale's second season has thus far seen Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) deal with being on opposite sides of town for the first time as Jughead started classes at Southside High.

Despite the Black Hood's attack on Midge and Moose and Betty's plea that he simply stay at Riverdale High, Jughead officially started class over at Southside High in The CW drama's third episode "The Watcher in The Woods," his tour guide being Toni Topaz. Betty also ends up meeting the young woman who may or may not end up a rival for Jughead's affections when she pays Jughead a late-night visit to the newsroom for Southside High's Red and Black newspaper. As Toni and Jughead get closer, it seems like things are lining up to make things difficult for "Bughead," but according to Reinhart the couple's current challenges don't necessarily lead to a breakup. The actress recently told Teen Vogue that sometimes love does conquer all.

"There's definitely, it seems to be like, countless forces that want to pry them apart," Reinhart said. "Their relationship is being put to the test, totally. I've been able to see the challenges that have been thrown their way. And, it's definitely hard. They're young, they're in love, and they're trying to make it work."

Much has been teased about the fate of Betty and Jughead's relationship this season and it isn't just the distance and new friends that could cause problems for the couple. Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa himself has hinted that even Archie could pose a problem, but with the show's second season only three episodes in, Reinhart is still optimistic for a happy ending despite the season being darker and scarier.

"And, at this point, it could go either way," she said. "I don't know. We're not even halfway through the season. You never know what kind of twists and turns will be thrown our way and where our characters will end up going. But, for right now, I'm definitely rooting for Betty and Jughead to pull through. But, it's all about as long as they're happy together. They're both going through such different things that if their relationship is only causing them stress in their lives, then it might be better to let it go. But, if they are kind of a beacon of light for one another and they give each other joy and happiness in this dark world, then I would say, hold on to that.

Riverdale airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
