As previously reported, 6-year-old South Carolina shooting victim Jacob Hall has sadly passed away.

Jacob's parents Renae and Rodger Hall confirmed the death to PEOPLE on Saturday.

"Our son, Jacob Hall, who was shot at Townville Elementary School on Wednesday, died today surrounded by family at Greenville Health System Children's Hospital," the Hall family's statement said.

"Jacob came into our lives six years and four months ago and changed it completely. He showed us how to love, laugh and smile even on days we did not want to. God gave him to us and he was taken away from us by a senseless act," the statement continued.

The kindergarten student was reportedly shot in the leg by a 14-year-old suspect, who was charged as a juvenile on Friday with one count of murder in the death of his father and three counts of attempted murder.

The bullet hit Jacob's femoral artery and caused massive blood loss, which led to cardiopulmonary arrest. He'd been on life support due to suffering a major brain injury from the amount of blood he lost.
