Ever since BOOM! announced they nabbed the rights to produce Mighty Morphin' Power Ranger comics, fans of the show couldn't wait to get more information from the publisher. Featuring the creative team of Kyle Higgins and Hendry Prasetya, get ready to head back to Angel Grove with an original, modern ongoing series that will be packed cover to cover with Zord-filled action.

Kicking off with a #0 issue January 13th, here's how BOOM! describes the series:

Based on the long-running Power Rangers franchise, five teens from Angel Grove High are granted superpowers and giant robot dinosaur Zords to defend Earth against the alien villain Rita Repulsa. When Repulsa creates an evil Green Power Ranger by brainwashing recent transfer student Tommy, the team is able to free him from her grasp and get him on their side. But with remnants of Repulsa's control still stirring in the back of Tommy's mind, he must confront the fact he may be more of a danger to his new team than a help. This is "Green Ranger: Year One."

Today - get your first full look at Hendry Prasetya's designs for the team, and some insight from Higgins on what fans can expect.

What is it about the Power Rangers, especially the Mighty Morphin variety, that has had staying power for 20 years?

Kyle Higgins: Man, if I knew the answer to that, I'd repeat it in a heartbeat (laughs). I think it's a combination of things—it was a series that caught the zeitgeist of the '90s in part because there weren't really any other live-action superhero properties on TV. On top of that—and I've talked about this a lot before, so apologies if I'm repeating myself—the series offers tremendous wish fulfillment in the way that any classic hero's journey story does. Ordinary kids made extraordinary, who juggle saving the world with the stress and drama of high school. The cast was diverse, the mythology was rich, the robots were huge… there wasn't a lot to dislike.

Before coming on to the book - who was your favorite ranger? Has it changed at all now that you've had time to get in their heads?

Higgins: It was a tie between Jason and Tommy. Jason was my favorite from the get-go, but Tommy was the most intriguing to me as the series progressed. I enjoy writing them both, as much as I enjoy writing Zack and Kim, Trini and Billy. They're all pretty unique and it's fun to explore what distinguishes them.

We see in the civilian designs, they're a bit updated - will their core personalities still remain in tact? or do they get an updating too?

Higgins: No, the personalities are the same. At least, I think they are (laughs). There's some modernizing as far as situations and subplots, language, etc, but the characters are the characters.
