Final Fantasy IX Coming To PC And Smartphones

Square Enix today announced that 2000's Final Fantasy IX will be re-released on PC and smartphones in Japan in 2016.
Check out the announcement trailer below:
As Kotaku reports, Square Enix is promising the port will feature "high-definition graphics, newly added achievements, auto-save, high speed mode, and several game boosting features."
Square Enix did not announce a Western release date for the port, but it seems a safe bet, as every other Final Fantasy phone and PC port has made it stateside eventually.
Directed by the franchise's creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Final Fantasy IX was something of a "back to basics" installment during the series' PlayStation era popularity boom. The game's plot involves thematic and direct allusions to previous games in the series, telling a story about warring nations, powerful crystals, and a band of plucky adventurers trying to end the conflict while overcoming their own personal demons.
The game also features a score by revered franchise composer Nobuo Uematsu.
Keep an eye out for Final Fantasy IX on Steam, the App Store, and Google Play sometime next year.
