KonoSuba
One of this year's surprise hits came in the form of KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! Created by Natsume Akatsuki, the story follows a teenage boy after he's sent to a fantasy world following his accidental death. Kazuma Satō is sent to the parallel world after a goddess named Aqua offers to let him live out his MMORPG dreams. Kazuma asks Aqua to join his party as they explore this new world, but all is not peaceful in this pseudo-afterlife. Aqua cannot return to her previous home until a villain known as the Devil King is defeated, and it comes down to Kazuma to overcome his materialistic dreams and takedown the monster for good.
Season 2 is set to debut in January 2017.
My Hero Academia
If you like superheroes and anime, then you need to get on the My Hero Academia train ASAP. The series debuted back in 2014 in Weekly Shonen Jump before Bones Studio turned it into an anime. My Hero Academia hit televisions earlier this year and followed a young boy named Izuku Midoriya as he desperately tries to become a professional hero. Born in a world where superpowers are the norm, Izuku defies every odd when he never develops gifts. However, when his bravery in saving a friend prompts his world's greatest hero to gift Izuku powers, the middle schooler learns what kind of responsibility comes with suiting up.
Season 2 is set to debut in April 2017.
Little Witch Academia
Never underestimate the power of a determined fandom. In 2013, Trigger Studio debuted a cute animated short titled Little Witch Academia to the excitement of fans. Two years later, a Kickstarter was made to help fund a sequel short, and the campaign met its goal with plenty of time to spare. The series' success prompted Netflix to license a whole season. The anime follows a girl named Akko Kagari as she trains at the Luna Nova Magical Academy with her friends. The students are training to become part of the next generation of witches, but her lack of a magical background makes things difficult.
Season 1 is set to debut in January 2017.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection
After a long wait, it looks like Code Geass will be making a return to anime next year. The fan-favorite series had its last full anime debut back in 2008. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection will see protagonist Lelouch vi Britannia come back to life after his supposed death in the last anime. If you are not familiar with Code Geass, then you should know the series follows Lelouch as he tries to take down the Holy Britannian Empire. The country's former prince obtains the power of Geass to help him bring down his father's tyrannical reign, and Lelouch uses the gift to become a revered vigilante.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection has no official release date set, but it is expected to air next year.
Blue Exorcist
Fans of Blue Exorcist have finally had their prayers answered. Next year, a new season of the anime is set to drop after six long years. Known as the 'Kyoto Saga,' the second season of Blue Exorcist will follow teenager Rin Okumura as he continues to gain control over his demonic powers. The boy, who is one of Satan's son, has been training to become a powerful exorcist who can take down his father. However, his goal becomes more difficult to achieve once his classmates learn of his lineage.
Season 2 will air in January 2017.
Gintama
In its long history, Gintama has had a slew of anime series, but fans are looking forward to the franchise's newest project. Both a live-action film and anime are set to make debuts next year, and the latter will hit television screen shortly after the new year. The anime follows a hero named Gintoki Sakata, an eccentric samurai who lives in an alternate world where aliens invaded Japan's Edo period. The teenager scrounges around the country doing odd-end jobs to pay rent, but his life gets more complicated once he meets a young alien girl named Kagura. Having saved her from being trafficked, Gintoki and his new band of friends push back against humanity's oppression.
Season 2 is will air in January 2017.
Attack On Titan
It's almost here. After a slew of delays, Attack on Titan is set to make an impressive comeback. The second season of the anime will finally debut next year and follow Eren Yeager's comrades as they learn more about humanity's monstrous Titans. Recently, the first teaser trailer for Attack on Titan premiered to rave reviews, and it gave fans a taste of its upcoming storyline. The new season will follow the manga's 'Clash of the Titans' arc which is a fan-favorite amongst readers. It will see characters like Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and Levi tested yet again by a horde of invading Titans - and they'll finally learn more about the beasts' origins.
Season 2 is slated to debut in April 2017.
One-Punch Man
When it comes to stand-out anime series, One-Punch Man was an absolute knock out for fans everywhere. The show debuted in October 2015 and has since garnered one of the largest cult followings in the anime realm. One-Punch Man may seen like a paraodic superhero story at first glance, and it definitely is; Don't get that twisted. However, the hilarious shonen series is also packed with thematic nuggets and enough heart-stopping action to get anyone pumped. Earlier this year, it was announced that One-Punch Man would get a sequel within the coming year, and fans are desperate for more Saitama in their lives.
Season 2 has no official air date set, but it is expected to debut in late 2017.
