Pirates Of The Caribbean Trailer Reveals Will Turner Could Be A Villain In Dead Men Tell No Tales

When the second trailer for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was released during the Super Bowl, fans were jumping out of their seats with excitement. Not only was it great to see the action of the trailer, but everyone was treated to the first sight of Will Turner since At World's End.

If you recall, Will ended up becoming the captain of The Flying Dutchman at the end of the original trilogy, taking the place of Davy Jones. When he appeared in the trailer for the new film, fans felt like it was no surprise that his face was starting to be taken over by sea-things. Remember, all of Davy Jones' crew was covered in pieces of the sea, marking all of the time they were on the ship.

If you watch the third film again however, you'll see Will's new appearance in a different light. The transformation Will is apparently undergoing isn't supposed to be natural - it means he's become a villain.

Think back to the story of Davy Jones. In the movies, it was revealed that he had become a villain over time. When he was given The Dutchman, his job was to escort souls that were lost at sea, to a peaceful afterlife. At one point, Davy stopped doing that, and took the souls as prisoner aboard his ship.

Fast-forward to the end of the trilogy, when Will becomes the captain of The Flying Dutchman. As soon as he - a good man - takes charge of the ship, the members of the crew immediately return to their human forms. This made it clear that their bond with the sea, and the "part of the crew, part of the ship" mentality, was only due to Davy Jones' disregard for his original purpose.

In other words, when Davy become a villain, his crew began to become a part of the ship. The same thing happened to the captain, as he was just a normal man when he was given the task.

After the credits of At World's End, audiences got to see Will return to land 10 years later. He had been captain for a decade, yet he still looked exactly the same. Because Will was doing the right thing, and fulfilling his purpose, he was able to keep his appearance.

Now, in the new trailer, Will is becoming a part of his ship. His face is covered with barnacles, meaning that he's undergoing the same changes as Davy Jones.

When you think about the story of The Dutchman, this can only mean one thing.

Will Turner has become a villain.
