As part of the classic monster shared-universe being produced and overseen by Chris Morgan and Alex Kurtzman — which will kick off with Tom Cruise's reboot of The Mummy — Universal has hired Will Beall to pen the latest script for The Creature From The Black Lagoon.

Beall is no stranger to shared-universe or getting his feet wet, as he recently wrote the script for James Wan and Jason Momoa's upcoming superhero spectacular, Aquaman! He also wrote Gangster Squad and is executive producing/writing CBS' Training Day television series.

As for Universal's classic monster-verse, it's expected to also include films for Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein and Van Helsing.

Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) - Captured and imprisoned for scientific study, a living "amphibious missing link" becomes enamored with the head researcher's female assistant (Julie Adams). When the hideous creature escapes and kidnaps the object of his affection, a crusade is launched to rescue the helpless woman and cast the terrifying creature back to the depths from which he came. Featuring legendary makeup artist Bud Westmore's brilliantly designed monster, Creature from the Black Lagoon is an enduring tribute to the imaginative genius of its Hollywood creators.

It was directed by Jack Arnold, based on a script by Harry Essex and Arthur A. Ross. The film stars Richard Carlson, Julia Adams, Richard Denning, Antonio Moreno, Whit Bissell, and Ben Chapman played the Creature on land and Ricou Browning performed the Creature's underwater scenes.
