CW President Comments On Whether Superman Will Get His Own Spinoff

Last year, The CW ushered in a new era of superhero goodness when it brought Supergirl into its folds. The brand-new series reinvigorated the network's line-up, and Supergirl brought The CW to new heights when it introduced one of DC's most famous icons. That's right: Superman made his most recent small-screen debut when the second season of Supergirl kicked off, and fans fell for Tyler Hoechlin's portrayal of the hero. Of course, plenty of fans were left to wonder whether the Kryptonian native would ever get his own standalone series, and the president of The CW is now commenting on the possibility.

Unfortunately, the news is not what fans hoped to hear. Earlier today, Mark Pedowitz addressed the idea of a Superman series with a resounding no.

"Tyler did a great job," he told audience members at the Television Critics Association's press tour. "There's no plan to do a series. There are no plans at the moment for him to return [to Supergirl]. If they wish to have him return, we'd love to have him."

When the president was asked whether there were any rights issues holding The CW back from a Superman series, Pedowitz sidestepped the query. "I can't even answer the question yet because at this time there are no plans to do it and there have been no discussions about it."

While the president batted away the idea of a Superman series, executive producer and Arrow-verse overseer Greg Berlanti was more optimistic about the ordeal. "Look, we were just really lucky," he explained. "We asked to have him come on for the first couple episodes and they were great about it. We'd love to have Tyler back, he's amazing, he was great in the role. In success, I think all those things are possible. I'm always the guy who says 'yes' if there seems to be an appetite for it and the people involved are really nice."

Right now, fans can only wait and see if the hero iconic hero will return to their televisions in a more permanent role. In just a few weeks, Supergirl will make its comeback following its midseason hiatus, so audiences will have its impending return to look forward to. KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS; ROULETTE RETURNS — Kara (Melissa Benoist) is moved by the story of a missing woman named Izzy (guest star Harley Quinn Smith) and decides to investigate despite Snapper Carr's (guest star Ian Gomez) order to leave it alone. Kara takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) with her to the last place Izzy was seen and the duo find themselves thrust through a portal to another planet, Slaver's Moon, where the downtrodden are sold as slaves. The leader of the trafficking ring is none other than Roulette (guest star Dichen Lachman).

To make matters worse, Slaver's Moon has a red sun, which means Kara and Mon-El are stripped of their powers and stuck on the planet with no way home. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Alex (Chyler Leigh) blames herself for Kara's disappearance, fearing she's become too focused on her new relationship with Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) and too complacent in watching out for her sister.

Kevin Smith directed the episode with story by Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Eric Carrasco & Jess Kardos.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. "Supergirl Lives" premieres on January 23.
