Yes, the rumors are true, Injustice 2 is getting none other than the lord of Apokoliips himself, Darkseid, as a playable character. The next DC Comics fighting game will include the evil and ultra powerful New God as a playable character, but if you want him at launch, you have to pre-order the game at a retailer or digitally.

Darkseid's goal is simple: he wants to rule the entire universe and reshape reality itself to suit his whims. It's all about setting achievable goals for yourself, kids. First appearing in a brief cameo in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #134 in 1970, Darkseid has become an incredibly popular villain, a lead in massive comic book events like The Great Darkness Saga, Final Crisis, and responsible for the formation of the Justice League in the DC Comics New 52 reboot. He's been in animation, on most DC series over the last few decades, plus in live-action in Smallville. He's the suspected villain of Young Justice season 3 when it returns soon, and with his harbinger and lacky Steppenwolf as the main villain in Justice League, Darkseid's first big screen appearance can't possibly be far behind. This will be his eleventh video game appearance. While he was a background character in the first Injustice: Gods Among Us, he was not playable.

In other words, Darkseid may have already conquered the universe, and now he'll be taking over your console, but you have to pre-order for this godly force of strength, energy, and durability to be yours. Let's hope his big finisher includes both Omega Beams and summoning a horde of parademons. Feel free to steal that idea, NetherRealm.

Injustice 2 is the sequel to the hit 2013 fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us, which saw the heroes and villains of DC Comics clashing in brutal brawls. From the minds behind Mortal Kombat, NetherRealm Studios, Injustice 2 continues the story of a world where Superman snapped, and used his powers to become not just judge, jury, and executioner over the villains of the DCU, but eventually a dictator, ruling over the world with his fist of steel. After his defeat and imprisonment, the world is trying to pick up the pieces, but won't have much time to rest as Brainiac hits the scene. Injustice 2 hits consoles May 16, 2017.
