DCEU Producer On How Zack Snyder Asked Joss Whedon To Finish Justice League

Not long ago, fans of the DC Extended Universe were left stunned when news broke about Zack Snyder's involvement with the Justice League. The director announced that he was stepping down from the film with wife Deborah Snyder to focus on his family. The couple revealed that Snyder's daughter Autumn had committed suicide earlier this March, prompting the pair to set back from work to heal their family. Justice League will finish its post-production with Joss Whedon at the helm. Now, one producer from the DCEU is speaking out about the shift in directors.

Tonight, Charles Roven appeared at the premiere for Wonder Woman where he walked the red carpet. It was there the producer spoke with Variety about the changes to Justice League, and the executive admitted Joss was already working with the studio when Snyder convinced him to join the film.

"We're excited about the film, of course - but we were saddened by the events that caused Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder to have to leave and turn the reins over to Joss Whedon," Roven said at the Wonder Woman premiere.

"He was already working with us on some of the scenes for that additional photography that we're going to be doing shortly. It was fortunate that Zack convinced him, and he agreed to step in and finish the movie - to help Zack finish his vision. We're excited about that."

For the Snyder family, they recently thanked fans for all their support following the announcement of Autumn's tragic passing. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Zack told press he wants to be where he is needed most these days, and that is not in a director's chair.

"In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was way through it," Snyder said as his wife Deborah sat beside him. "The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all consuming. And in the last two months I've come to the realization...I've decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I'm having a hard time."

K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
