Gotham and Lucifer Have Extended Winter Break in 2016-2017 Season

05/16/2016 11:10 am EDT

With FOX's 2016-2017 schedule released Monday morning, we've seen new shows like The Exorcist and Lethal Weapon, and returning series like 24: Legacy and Prison Break. But for new and returning series to debut, others need to make way.

Therefore, Gotham and Lucifer will have an extended Winter break, with the second half of their seasons debuting in Spring 2017.

Gotham split season 2 this year in an even 11 episode front and 11 episode back end, with the story having an even break as well. "Rise of the Villains" and "Wrath of the Villains" were used as subtitles to help the split, with character deaths (and resurrections) also giving the two halves a distinct start and finish, while also tying them together as one product.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Empire also have Spring starts to adjust for schedule changes, as well as new series Pitch and Shots Fired.

We've reached out to WBTV and FOX for comment and clarification, and will update this post with their response.
