'Gotham' Season 4 Promos Tease Introduction Of The Dark Knight

Gotham fans have been anticipating Bruce's evolution into the Dark Knight, and a new set of promos inches ever closer to that ultimate goal.

Gotham Season Four now has the tagline "A Dark Knight", building on the tease of Bruce's vigilante lifestyle seen in Season Three (via TV Insider). In the first image, Bruce stands behind Jim Gordon, but it's Bruce's wardrobe that garners the most attention. A cape is forming on Bruce thanks to a cluster of Bats, another ode to his future role as Gotham's protector.

The second promo goes even further though, showing a close-up of Bruce's face behind the Gotham logo. Here though he is wearing a full mask and what appears to be a hoodie over top of it. Bruce is done sitting on the sidelines, and it looks like he will finally start his journey to becoming one of the greatest heroes ever.

Speaking of that big tease in Season Three, fans are not the only ones who lost it when Bruce finally edged towards his heroic future.

"That was one of the best moments of my life. It was amazing," Bruce Wayne actor David Mazouz told ComicBook.com. "When John Stephens, our executive producer, told me about that moment we were shooting, I think, episode 10 of Season 3 and I was like, oh my god. I was just in shock and I couldn't really process it. What I was thinking the next week or so was, 'please don't change it, please don't change it, please don't change it.' And they didn't — they made it even better than what he told me was going to happen. I was just so excited."

The good news is that it turned out to not be a one-off, and will be a major focus of the new season.

"Another thing I was worried about was we were going to get to Season Four and the writers were going to go, 'you know, I think we took it a little too far too fast. Let's backtrack," explained Mazouz. "And the exact opposite happened. The trajectory is just continuing in that direction. I would say, I would know it's accelerating in that direction. It's not going to stop."

Gotham returns to Fox this fall.
