Guy Ritchie Comments On Directing Suicide Squad 2

Director Guy Ritchie's latest film, King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword, is hitting theaters soon. When talking about what's next for him, the topic of superhero films came up, and there is one that interests him.

Speaking with Kristopher Tapley on Variety's Playback podcast, Ritchie was asked about the superhero genre, and if it is a sandbox that he wants or needs to play in. "It's a good question actually, and if I find a tone that I go "oh I'll like that", um, I quite fancy doing Suicide Squad 2 because I thought I could do a good with it. So I'm up for, I can't do it because I'm doing something else, but I'm not, I'm a guy that likes to work, so I'm gonna work, and I'll work with whatever I can to make it work. I am not an absolutlist about what a genre is, so I'm not a no man, I'm a yes man when it comes to making something manifest. That said, I just want it to be interesting. I want it to feel fresh, I want it to feel interesting and I want it to feel something that is worth me taking my $15 dollars to the cinema and going "that was worth it" That's it."

When Tapley said "maybe Suicide Squad 3", Ritchie said "Has someone gotten to it? No, but I really felt like I could do something with that." Ritchie's creative style would be a fantastic fit for the franchise, but unfortunately it doesn't look like it will happen. Previous director David Ayer is not returning for the sequel.

When the child Arthur's father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur's uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy...whether he likes it or not.

Starring with Hunnam (FX's "Sons of Anarchy") and Oscar nominee Law ("Cold Mountain," "The Talented Mr. Ripley") are Astrid Berges-Frisbey ("Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides") as Mage; Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou ("Blood Diamond," "In America") as Bedivere; Aidan Gillen (HBO's "Game of Thrones") as Goosefat Bill; and Eric Bana ("Star Trek") as Arthur's father, King Uther Pendragon.

Guy Ritchie ("The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," the "Sherlock Holmes" films) directed the film from a screenplay by Joby Harold ("Awake") and Guy Ritchie and Lionel Wigram, story by David Dobkin ("The Judge") and Joby Harold. The film is produced by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman ("A Beautiful Mind," "I Am Legend"), Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell ("Awake," "Holy Rollers"), and Steve Clark-Hall, Ritchie, and Lionel Wigram. David Dobkin and Bruce Berman are executive producers.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword hits theaters on May 12, 2017.
