Henry Cavill Joins Mission: Impossible 6

It looks like one of the DC Extended Universe's big stars is suiting up for another franchise. Not long ago, the actor confirmed he landed a role in Mission: Impossible 6 on Instagram. The actor had a rather funny conversation with the film's director Christopher McQuarrie about the casting, and fans are still reeling over the news.

"Say, @henrycavill. Had a thought. Curious if you're interested in a role in the 6th installment of Mission: Impossible. No pressure," McQuarrie wrote.

Cavill then asked how he could refuse a man with such good hair. The director then made sure the star would know what was expected of him if he took up a role.

"Just a few caveats: must enjoy extreme heights, high speeds, motor vehicles of all varieties (especially aircraft), practical stunts, firearms, and sporadic exposition. All good?"

Naturally, Cavill was chill with the requirements. "Oh ok…..I'm in!"

Many fans were not expecting Cavill to be cast, but McQuarrie did tease fans earlier this year that Mission: Impossible 6 would do some very unexpected things. While speaking to Empire, the director said the action film would subvert all sorts of expectations and tropes.

"It does not start with action. That was the hardest pitch of this movie," he said, teasing the film's opening. "I came to Tom with a picture of something and Tom looked at it and said, 'That's awesome! I want to fall off of that!' It's like, OK, I can see it on a poster, and I can see Tom falling off of it."

The director also said fans would find out more about its characters, specifically its lead Ethan Hunt. "I've seen five of these movies and I don't know who Ethan Hunt is," McQuarrie said. "I want to know who Ethan is in this movie, I want an emotional journey for this character, and Tom really embraced it."

Mission: Impossible 6 will be directed by McQuarrie and was also written by him as well. So far, stars like Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, and Jeremy Renner have singed onto the film. Paramount Pictures is expected to release the film on July 27, 2018.
