Injustice 2 Main Villain Revealed

The Injustice 2 story trailer debuted this morning, and with it tons of new information, new characters, and of course, the biggest reveal of all: the main villain behind this round of DC Comics-based character infighting. While Superman was the villain of the first game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, this time a more traditional villain lies in wait, and pulls the strings, and it's none other than the intergalactic supercomputer Brainiac.

Brainiac narrates the trailer, revealing a bit about his motivations for attacking and acquiring Earth for his collection.

"Savior... Monster. Guardian... Vigilante. The preservation of life, so often the justification for taking it. Humans: elevating those that keep guard, until they watch too close. And this so-called Hero, condoning the very act he would condemn. Transgressions of the past shape actions to come. As offspring turns into adversary, yesterday's loss leads to madness, and God becomes Tyrant, becomes Outcast, becomes... dust. As factions dissolve and form, and lust for power enslaves all, such folly and futility in the grand design. Curious how lines once clearly defined become blurred. Hmm... perhaps it is time for them to be... redrawn," Brainiac says. The narration plays over scenes of Superman, Batman, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Robin, Bane, Poison Ivy, and more, and presents a Brainiac who is even more analytical and prepared than his comic book counterpart often is.

The other twist to this reveal comes from a new piece of key art released featuring Supergirl. Looming behind her is the glowing Brainiac head-ship, his intergalactic vessel of travel, an extension of his being, and typically where he keeps his collection of civilizations. We know that in this alternate reality, Supergirl is arriving to Earth for the first time, after the chaos her cousin caused, and it looks from this art (and if you're eagle-eyed while watching the trailer) that she's there at the behest of, and even working directly for, Brainiac. We'll surely learn more about that as the days leading to the game's release continue to tick by. Check out the gallery below for the keyart, a screenshot, and images from Brainiac's reveal in the trailer.

Injustice 2 is the sequel to the hit 2013 fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us, which saw the heroes and villains of DC Comics clashing in brutal brawls. From the minds behind Mortal Kombat, NetherRealm Studios, Injustice 2 continues the story of a world where Superman snapped, and used his powers to become not just judge, jury, and executioner over the villains of the DCU, but eventually a dictator, ruling over the world with his fist of steel. After his defeat and imprisonment, the world is trying to pick up the pieces, but won't have much time to rest as Brainiac hits the scene. Injustice 2 hits consoles May 16, 2017.
