Is Arnold Schwarzenegger Up For A Wonder Woman Role?

02/12/2017 11:15 am EST

Certain persons important to the DC Extended Universe recently followed action movie icon Arnold Schwarzenegger on Twitter, leading to some speculation about whether this could indicate his involvement in the superhero universe.

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and co-writer Geoff Johns both followed Schwarzenegger on Twitter. Could this mean that Schwarzenegger is up for a part in Wonder Woman?

It's impossible to say anything for sure. That Jenkins and Johns both followed Schwarzenegger could be pure coincidence, or it could be the result of meeting him at an unrelated event or any number of other things. Jenkins also followed Harry Potter author JK Rowling and Agents of SHIELD actor J. August Richards, but neither are likely to make an appearance in Wonder Woman.

However, there is some precedence. After all, fans were able to deduce that Joe Manganiello had been cast as Deathstroke by noticing how many DC Films executives had followed him on Twitter, and a similar game of Twitter detective has led to Speculation that John Cleese will also be joining the DC Extended Universe.

What makes things tricky here is that Wonder Woman has already wrapped filming. With that in mind, how can Schwarzenegger suddenly be involved? There are a couple of possibilities. The main villain of the Wonder Woman movie is Ares, God of War. Perhaps Warner Bros. is going the CGI route for bringing the god to life and Schwarzenegger will provide the voice. Or maybe Schwarzenegger is playing a small role added in reshoots, such as Zeus, or has a post-credits scene role that will lead into a sequel.

Again, this is pure speculation, but interesting speculation nonetheless. Giving Schwarzenegger role in the Wonder Woman movie or another DC Films movie would at least provide him with an opportunity to redeem himself after playing Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin.

Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2, 2017, and currently, has a ComicBook.com anticipation rating of 4.22 out of 5. Let us know how much you're anticipating Wonder Woman by rating it below, and see when other movies are coming out in ComicBook.com's movie release schedule.
