Wonder Woman Rescue
Elfman puts his own spin on Amazonian warrior Wonder Woman in "Wonder Woman Rescue," which presumably accompanies Wonder Woman's solo adventure against what appears to be bank robbers in the Justice League trailers. At minute 1:17, you can hear a new iteration of the now-famous Wonder Woman theme (first introduced in Batman v Superman as "Is She With You?"). Elfman's take is more orchestral in nature, replacing the aggressive guitar riffs of the original.
Friends and Foes
The first thirty seconds of "Friends and Foes" recalls John Williams' unmistakable Superman theme, putting a decidedly Elfman spin on the heroic score: it's more ominous and eerie, but nonetheless obviously has something to do with Henry Cavill's Superman, who will be resurrected sometime during the events of Justice League.
Elfman doesn't overdo it with his incorporating bits of classic Superman, but one has to wonder if it was the right decision: as iconic as Williams' Superman theme is, it's an integral part of the DNA of the Christopher Reeve Superman and those now-retired series of movies. Transplanting it into this unrelated rebooted franchise is a risky move — especially as Cavill's Superman already has his own musical identity in a score crafted by Zimmer. The Man of Steel theme isn't as iconic as Williams' take on the big blue boyscout — nothing is — but it was identifiable in its own right. As exciting as it is to hear those all-too-familiar bars of Williams' Superman works again, it would be fair for one to question if it should have stayed with the past.
Aquaman in Atlantis
The score gets bombastic and epic with the first 75 seconds of "Aquaman in Atlantis," and it doesn't take the world's greatest detective to figure it's the track that will be accompanying our first in-depth (ahem) look at the aquatic superhero's enigmatic home.
The Final Battle
One would expect "The Final Battle" to set the tone for the no doubt action-packed finale in store for Justice League, but the biggest surprise comes at minute 1:15, when the distinct bars of Elfman's timeless Batman theme roar to life. 2:44 gives way to what sounds to be an awe-inspiring moment for the man of steel, in what is shaping up to be a movie filled with big hero moments.
With under a week to go until Justice League soars into theaters, the movie has scored mostly favorable responses from preview audiences. Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher, Justice League opens November 17.
The Justice League soundtrack is also available for streaming on Spotify and hits online retailers such as Amazon on December 8.
