Legends of Tomorrow: Matthew Letscher Says We Learn A Lot About Eobard Thawne Starting This Week

The Legends of Tomorrow have had their fill when dealing with their second season threat, the Legion of Doom. But according to the actor behind the Reverse Flash, it might all change in the coming episodes.

"You're going to see Eobard challenged in ways that he has not been challenged to date," Matthew Letscher said while speaking to ComicBook.com, who plays Reverse-Flash on the CW show.

Letscher has appeared as a major villain on both the Flash and Legends of Tomorrow but he's yet to be challenged in a way viewers are about to see, even when going against the Scarlet Speedster.

"A lot of that comes to a head this week," the actor said. "A lot of things come to a head that have been bubbling under the surface. It's great to have because it identifies a central weakness in Eobard's characters, which is hubris, which can be your undoing."

Letscher revealed the Legion of Doom will remain the main threat in their pursuit of completing the Spear of Destiny, a part of which was just claimed by the Legends team.

"You're going to see more development in the second half, starting with this episode this week, Letscher revealed. "You're going to see a lot more of whatever shreds of humanity Eobard has left, and not just amongst his Legion of Doom members but also with other Legends in different scenarios."

Letscher said that his appearance on the Flash explored his relationship with Barry, it didn't reveal what exactly is the source of his motivation.

"You understood his complicated relationship with Barry and what Barry meant to him and it has been there to some extent but definitely in the second half of this season, you start to see a lot more of it," Letscher added. "You start to understand what's driving him, not just immediately with the Spear of Destiny but his temperament and why he feels aggrieved in some sense."

While the Legends did get their hands on the chunk of the Spear, they lost their ally Rip Torn to the Legion of Doom before they could be properly reunited.

"I think if memory serves, this episode does a lot to set up the second half," Letscher said. "You won't necessarily see all three of us working together in every episode but you're going to see some part of us pursuing our goals in every episode and then toward the end—in the last handful of episodes—I think we're going to be quite heavy."

DC's Legends of Tomorrow moves to Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT when new episodes resume later this month. "The Legion of Doom" debuts on January 31.

Told from the perspective of the villains, the episode will feature Matthew Letscher (the Reverse-Flash), John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn) and Neal McDonough (Damien Darhk) and hopefully shed a little light on just what it is they're after.

You can check out the photos in the attached gallery, and the official synopsis below.

TAKING RISKS — The Legends are determined to find and rescue Rip (Arthur Darvill), but first must focus on locating the Spear of Destiny. Stein (Victor Garber) thinks he has the perfect person to help but knows involving her will be risky. Meanwhile, Malcom Merlyn (guest star John Barrowman) and Damien Darhk (guest star Neal McDonough) realize that Thawne (guest star Matt Letscher) is pitting them against each other.

Caity Lotz, Brandon Routh, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Franz Drameh and Maisie Richardson-Sellers also star. Eric Laneuville directed the episode written by Phil Klemmer & Marc Guggenheim.
