LEGO Batman Movie Producer Discusses Batman v Superman's Influence

The LEGO Batman Movie is now in theaters, bringing fans a fun LEGO movie that's full of DC Comics Easter eggs and character cameos. One of the recurring jokes the film establishes early on is Batman's rivalry with Superman, and how Batman currently considers The Man of (LEGO) Steel that his greatest foe.

Considering how long The LEGO Batman Movie was in production (years ), it would follow that filmmakers would've had to know a thing or two about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before its release last year - or they had to make some updates to their material when Zack Snyder's superhero battle flick got closer to release.

Thanks to the folks over at Collider, we now know a little bit more about how Batman v Superman affected LEGO Batman Movie's story.

As LEGO Batman Movie producer Dan Lin explains:

"It was always the way it was. This is not a reaction to [Batman v Superman]. Obviously when you watch the movie it's a very different movie than BvS in terms of tone. But this is the same tone as The LEGO Movie; that Batman character we haven't changed, and The LEGO Movie came before BvS. But this is the same kind of snarky, arrogant Batman who actually has a heart in the middle. That character has always been around."

The LEGO Batman Movie actually does a good job of poking fun at the overall concept of the Batman v Superman conflict, rather than picking apart the actual film Zack Snyder made. However, it most likely a matter of timing, rather creative courtesy; if The LEGO Batman Movie makers new then what so many viewers know now, there would be plenty in Batman v Superman that would be worth some lampooning. LEGO Batman pretty much makes fun of every other incarnation of the character....
