Mister Miracle Artist Says the Book is Basically New Gods Rebirth

After retailer and podcaster Ryan Higgins praised the forthcoming Mister Miracle series from writer Tom King and artist Mitch Gerads, the pair hopped into Higgins's Twitter mentions to thank him for his input.

As you might expect, that meant they engaged with some fans who were also there, Gerads provided an interesting pitch for the series.

After a fan tweeted that he would like to see a New Gods series set in the DC Rebirth line, Gerads responded, "That's basically what [Miracle Man] is, everyone's in it!"

That's likely a relief to Jack Kirby fans, who have felt that having some of his most beloved creations -- The New Gods -- largely absent during the year-long celebration of his centennial was an odd choice for DC to make.

King and Gerads's 12-issue Mister Miracle maxi series begins this August from DC Comics, chaining up Jack Kirby's messianic escape artist for a brand new adventure. The series will be King and Gerads' next major collaboration after The Sheriff Of Babylon, as well as a few issues of Batman for DC Rebirth.

Mister Miracle AKA Scott Free was originally created by Kirby as a part of his Fourth World saga, alongside the New Gods and the Forever People. The stories contained the concepts of Darkseid, Apokalips, Highfather, and Orion, which have become a staple of DC lore ever since.

The sixth issue of The Kamandi Challenge hits the stands next week, and a series of Jack Kirby-themed one-shots are hitting the stands in August, the month of Kirby's actual birthday.

Mister Miracle #1, lettered by Clayton Cowles, covers by Nick Derington, and edited by Jamie Rich, will be in stores this August.
