Warner Bros. has no immediate plans to get its Batman movies underway, but director Chris McKay is keeping Dick Grayson at the front of his mind. The DCEU recently announced plans to expand its Bat-Family by rolling out solo films for Batgirl and Nightwing. And, now, fans can get get a glimpse at how McKay plans to contextualize the latter standalone.

Over on Twitter, the director shared a slew of posts about how he intends to approach Nightwing. McKay stressed why DC fans have become so attached to Grayson's alter-ego over the years, and the director put some heavy emphasis on the character's complicated relationship with Batman himself.

"The story of Dick Grayson, becoming Robin, then becoming Nightwing played out for us, the audience, in the comics in REAL TIME. It wasn't a flashback. We experienced it. So all of Robin/Nightwing's successes and failures we were along for the ride," McKay wrote.

"People that underestimated Robin or dismissed him perhaps had their opinions changed as we watched him "grow up" right in front of us. His relationships, his conflicts with Batman et al felt real to me because he was the window character with which we experienced Gotham City."

For now, there is no telling how McKay hopes to frame Nightwing's creation, but fans should not expect the DCEU to give Grayson a straight-forward origin story. The film may use flashbacks to gloss over the boy's original partnership with Bruce Wayne as Batman and leave McKay to pick up with Nightwing during a run-of-the-mill mission.

Before Nightwing can get his own film, fans will see the DCEU roll out its own Batman standalone. Matt Reeves has been brought on to direct The Batman, so the film may make a few asides to Nightwing's presence in the DCEU as a lead-in for McKay. Plus, fans shouldn't count out a nod to the vigilante in the Justice League movie. The film's trailers have seen Jim Gordon praise Batman for working with others again, so Grayson may get a name-drop if fans are lucky.
