Rob Thomas Says iZombie Season 3 Is Not Planned to Be The Last

11/02/2016 11:26 am EDT

iZombie showrunner Rob Thomas has taken to Twitter to deny a report claiming that iZombie's third season will be the show's last.

The cult-favorite series was renewed for a third season but, as it was in its first season, shuttled to midseason to accommodate a network (The CW) with a loaded schedule after every primetime show whose future was in question got renewed instead of cancelled for the 2016-2017 broadcast season.

There has been some speculation that iZombie could be gearing up for a "third and final"-type of season, especially since showrunner Rob Thomas is helping The CW develop a TV series based on The Lost Boys.

Not so, says Thomas, in response to Christian Today making that speculation very public with an article that sounds like a series finale is a done deal.

Thomas disagreed.

The farfetched speculation in the story would likely be a non-starter, except that it reinforced fears some iZombie fans already had, and referred to actual quotes Thomas had given other outlets (hence the "boyfriend" comment in that first tweet above).

iZombie's season 3 premiere date isn't yet set. It could be anytime between January (when last year's midseason shows at The CW started to trickle in) and March (when iZombie premiered in 2015). It's based on the Vertigo comic book created by Michael Allred and Chris Roberson.

ComicBook.com will be visiting the set of iZombie later today, so expect to start hearing some buzz about the new season soon.
