Scott Snyder Shares His Wish For Upcoming Batman Movie And TV Adaptations

Scott Snyder, current writer of All-Star Batman and one of the best-reviewed and best-selling Batman writers of the last 20 years, appeared on Good Knight Gotham tonight and talked about his impressions of the Gotham season three finale, as well as what he wants to see from future film, TV, and other adaptations of the character.

"I'm a really big fan of bold reinterpretations," Snyder told ComicBook.com's Good Knight Gotham aftershow. "It's what keeps them young and keeps you young as a creator....I'm always first in line for any reinterpretation of them, and I think they're doing well on Gotham."

Asked about his hopes for future outside-media adaptations of the Caped Crusader, Snyder returned ot similar tarrietory. "My hope would be that the creators that take the character just try to be bold and daring with it. He's really elastic: the core of Batman is a simple story about a boy who has everything taken from him and faces this horrific event and then changes that into fuel for him to become this great hero and this pinnacle of human achievement. He takes this thing that's meaningless and says, 'I'm going to become this engine of meaning and make sure that this never happens to another boy like me.' So it's really at the core a very malleable character. That's one of the things I love about him is that you can put him anywhere and you can stretch him very, very far and he's still Batman."

While Snyder's run on Batman, starting at the launch of 2011's The New 52 reboot and running until just a few months ago, is bound to be a favorite for years go come, he isn't slowing down. Artist Greg Capullo has moved on to a creator-owned book at Image Comics, but Snyder's All-Star Batman is a huge seller (even as one of the only books in DC's current lineup that has a hefty, $4.99 price tag).

And for Snyder? The ride alone is worth it.

"I honestly have never had more fun on a Bat- book than this book," Snyder told us during a recent interview about the series' second issue. "I'm as proud of this one as anything I've done from Black Mirror to now. It is a joy to go to work on this one entirely. I love the story and it's the kind of thing I would have done in Batman too, but being able to do it free of those pressures and the grind of being in Gotham, creating stuff that needs to hold the Bat- lineup."

All-Star Batman #3 is out in stores from Snyder, John Romita, Jr., and Declan Shalvey on October 19.
