Stephen Amell Wants A More Comics Accurate Arrow For Season 6

The last season of Arrow ended with a monumental cliffhanger leaving no character safe from the reaper's blade. The big bad Prometheus rigged the island of Lian Yu with explosives, and Oliver Queen watched helplessly as fire engulfed his former home while his teammates were trapped.

There's no telling who will make it out alive and who will end up dead on when the show begins, but the events of Season 5 are going to weigh heavily on the vigilante moving forward. And series star Stephen Amell hopes his character is affected to the point where he starts acting more like the Oliver Queen from the comic books.

While speaking at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in Portland over the weekend, Amell said he wants the Green Arrow to become more socially conscious like his DC Comics counterpart.

"I've said that it's very, very important that if Oliver doesn't take away lessons from Season 5 and doesn't keep doing the things that have led to this catastrophic event, the character stops being interesting to me," Amell said. "So I hope that part of that, in Season 6 and if we have seasons beyond that, I hope that part of that is we get back to a lot of the tenets that people recognize from the comics. And that of course is humor and a socially conscious, slightly liberal superhero."

Oliver is in the perfect spot to start affecting change in Star City, especially with Prometheus' campaign of personal violence and destruction behind him. Though he still has to contend with another masked vigilante who calls himself, uh, Vigilante, he'll hopefully be able to make life easier for his constituents.

"The comics version, he has some really interesting qualities that make him unique, and I hope we get to explore more of those," Amell said.

Arrow's sixth season debuts on The CW on Thursday, October 12 at 8 pm ET.

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the North China Sea.
