Supergirl EP Explains Lena Luthor Twist

In the last episode of Supergirl, we finally learned the identity of the mysterious director of Cadmus — portrayed by Desperate Housewives' Brenda Strong — that is keeping Jeremiah Danvers (Dean Cain) captive, created Metallo (Frederick Schmidt), and supplied a greedy gang with powerful alien weapons. She is Lillian Luthor, the mother of Lena and Lex Luthor.

It's a great twist, but now, we need to know if Lena knows what her mother has been up to, or if she is truly the innocent and kind-hearted person she has sold herself as to Kara.

"That's part of why we did it this way," Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg told EW. "You're supposed to be left wondering how involved Lena is. We've seen that Lillian Luthor is somebody not to be messed with. She clearly wields a great deal of power and scientific knowhow. What exactly is her relationship with her daughter, and exactly how much Lena is involved with Cadmus, makes up part of the excitement factor for these next few episodes."

THE GUARDIAN DEBUTS IN NATIONAL CITY – The Guardian debuts to lend a hand after a parasite alien drains Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) of her power. Mon-El (Chris Wood) considers a less than desirable new career which then leads him to contemplate his motives. Alex (Chyler Leigh) struggles with a new reality.

Andrew Kreisberg and Caitlin Parris wrote the script based on the story by Greg Beranti. The episode was directed by Larry Teng.

Supergirl is based on the characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and appearing in DC Comics, by special arrangement with the Jerry Siegel Family.
