Rumor: The Batman Will Start Shooting In Summer 2018

A field of uncertainty surrounds The Batman solo film, but a new rumor suggests it will go into production much sooner than you might think.

The Batman has undergone some substantial changes since it originally surfaced, but according to Heroic Hollywood's Umberto Gonzalez, the shop should be ready to sail rather soon, despite the changes.

"If everything falls into place, The Batman should go into production in the summer of 2018," Gonzalez said.

That is admittedly surprising if it turns out to be the case. The Batman was originally going to be directed by Batman star Ben Affleck, who co-wrote a script with DC chief creative officer Geoff Johns. Since then Affleck stepped out of the director's chair but is still starring in the film. Warner Bros. then brought in Matt Reeves to direct the project, a decision that has been well received by fans.

The only issue with that though is Reeves started over on the script, so many figured that would push the project even further out. If this turns out to be true, they might get their ducks in a row much sooner than expected, which is wonderful for fans eager to see Affleck don the cape and cowl in a solo outing.

There's still plenty of questions left to be answered with the project, however. Early test footage was released, showing Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, who was planned to have a significant part in the film. With Reeves and co. starting over, it remains to be seen if he will still be involved.

Since the original announcement, Warner Bros. has announced two new films in the Batman universe. The first is the Joss Whedon directed Batgirl, followed by the Chris McKay directed Nightwing project. Will either of these be integrated into The Batman? Plenty are wondering, but answers are slow at the moment since the script is currently in the process of being written.

The project seems to be in good hands at the moment, and at least DC fans will get another chance this year to see Ben Affleck in the Batman role. Affleck will be reprising the role of Bruce Wayne in Justice League, which debuts later this year.
