The Guardian Debuts in Supergirl's "Changing" Synopsis

The CW has released the official synopsis for "Changing," the upcoming sixth episode of Supergirl's second season.

In the episode, James Olsen will debut as The Guardian, leaving the non-powered hero at the tip of the spear while Supergirl's powers are gone.

Of course, this isn't the first time in his character history that Olsen has become a superhero, although being The Guardian -- a hero whose legacy goes back to the Golden Age and who has shared the printed page with Jimmy more times than most any other heroic ally -- is a new wrinkle to the story.

How does it come about?

"James has a pretty big turn coming up. These next few episodes are going to make him realize that being a photographer...is not enough for him, so he's going to go on a pretty exciting career trajectory that we're pretty pumped by," teased executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. "James is going to decide that he can no longer sit back and be a sidekick, so he's going to become a vigilante. He's going to become Guardian, complete with the shield, which is going to cause a massive problem in his relationship with Kara, becuase he's not going to tell her."

THE GUARDIAN DEBUTS IN NATIONAL CITY – The Guardian debuts to lend a hand after a parasite alien drains Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) of her power. Mon-El (Chris Wood) considers a less than desirable new career which then leads him to contemplate his motives. Alex (Chyler Leigh) struggles with a new reality.

Andrew Kreisberg and Caitlin Parris wrote the script based on the story by Greg Beranti. The episode was directed by Larry Teng.

It seems likely the "new reality" Alex deals will will pertain to those meaningful glances she was sharing with Maggie Sawyer (Fiorana Lima) in last night's episode, right? Meanwhile -- a parasitic alien? Could this be a Supergirl take on The Parasite, one of Superman's most recognizable villains?

Supergirl airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. "Changing" will debut on November 14, 2016.
