How Danny Huston Channeled His Wonder Woman Villain

Wonder Woman is set to take the world by storm when her movie debuts in less than two weeks.

Though the character already debuted in last year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the new film will reveal how Diana of Themyscira leaves her island paradise and helps save mankind in the midst of the first World War.

Though she's ultimately going up against the machinations of Ares, the God of War, one of her main human foes goes by General Erich Ludendorff, played by Danny Huston, who is conspiring with the villainous Doctor Maru AKA Doctor Poison.

Huston spoke with ComicBook.com's Meredith Placko about his role and how he was able to channel the evil nature for the screen.


"I had a wonderful character to draw from," Huston said. "He was a real character. A general in the first World War. He's deeply patriotic. He's lost his son in the war, was quite torn up about it. He's got this sort of arrogant demeanor about him, maybe spoilt. He understands that there are losses in war and that people have to die but it's for some sort of greater good."

Like most great villains, Huston's Ludendorff sees himself as the hero of the story, willing to do what is necessary to end the war.

"So you kind of sort the logic out in your head and then and then play with that a little bit and relish the badness of him," Huston said, "and his relationship with Doctor Maru and this formula that they're creating which is going to have a lot of casualties and relish the idea that he's going to meet Wonder Woman and how will he feel about that."

We'll find out how General Ludendorff plays into the God of War's schemes when Wonder Woman releases in theaters June 2.
