Gal Gadot's Pay For Wonder Woman Is Surprisingly Low

When it comes to Hollywood, moviegoers might assume its superhero stars bring in millions of dollars; However, that is not always the case. Newcomers may snag a smaller paycheck in their first heroic outing, and it looks like Gal Gadot was subjected to a similar cash out. Despite Wonder Woman earning more than $500 million worldwide, Gadot did not break bank with the feature.

The discussion of Gadot's paycheck has resurfaced thanks to a previous Variety piece. The publication cited an Israeli show known as Good Evening with Gai Pines which confirmed Gadot would make $300,000 for her contract's slate of films. The actress raked in the money for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, and will do so again with Justice League.

Of course, $300,000 is a hefty sum of money for any job, but the total is not what many would expect for a major blockbuster. It's likely Gadot has earned more than her contract stipulates due to the overwhelmingly positive response Wonder Woman has garnered. However, Gadot is not the only superhero star whose contract saw its paycheck start out on the low end.

Before Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman, Marvel Studios had a similar proposal for Chris Evans. The actor reportedly earned $300,000 for his first outing as Captain America. Of course, there are other stars who jump out of the theatrical gate with additional zeroes on their paychecks. When Henry Cavill nabbed the role of Superman, the actor received a whopping $14 million for her Man of Steel debut.

Of course, fans may be a bit confused as to why Cavill raked in more money than Gadot. Both actors had a similar level of fame within the U.S, and Gadot was known for a recurring role in the Fast & Furious franchise. Sure, Cavill may have been cast in a role with more name-brand recognition, but Wonder Woman isn't a B-list hero; Diana Prince is one of the most recognizable superheroines of all-time. No one can know for sure what factored into the pay discrepancy, but it's hard to ignore Hollywood's symptomatic history with the gender pay gap.

Still, fans can be sure Gadot's paycheck won't remain small for long. The actress fronted one of DC Entertainment's highest-rated films with Wonder Woman, and Gadot has a contract renewal coming up. There's little doubt Warner Bros. won't offer the actress significantly more money to keep her lassoed into the DCEU, and fans will be happy to see the starlet banking some more revenue off her work.

The film stars Gal Gadot (Diana Prince/Wonder Woman), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Robin Wright (General Antiope), Connie Nielsen (Queen Hippolyta), David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis (Etta Candy), Danny Huston, Ewen Bremmer, Doutzen Kroes, Samantha Jo (Euboea), Florence Kasumba (Senator Acantha), Said Taghmaoui, Eleanor Matsuura (Epione), Emily Carey (Young Diana), and Lisa Loven Kongsli (Menalippe).

Wonder Woman is in theaters now, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
