Wonder Woman Will Be a Different DCEU Movie Says Gal Gadot

The DC Extended Universe has had a pretty hard time of it. Each official entry in the shared universe saga - Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad - has been met with controversy, splitting DC Comics fans (and even average viewers) into divisive "love/hate" camps. Even Warner Bros. executives seem to think that there needs to be a course-correction; they've put acclaimed DC Comics writer Geoff Johns in charge of DC Films, to establish the sort of creative guidance that Marvel Studios has via Kevin Feige.

While all these changes are taking place, everyone at DC/WB has been all too happy to let fans know that a new DCEU is on the way; however, when it will arrive has been a big question. Justice League is still going to be a first and foremost a Zack Snyder film; and Monster director Patty Jenkins was already into filming Wonder Woman before BvS and SS had earned the DCEU its current reputation.

In a recent interview with We Got This Covered, Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot addressed the tone of the DCEU thus far, and how her film will compare to that. Gadot was clear in stating that, "Wonder Woman is different....with this character, what I love about her so much is that her agenda is love. It's not about fighting, it's not about who is stronger than whom; it's not about women versus men. It's about love, and acceptance of others. She stands for love, justice and compassion."

For a lot of DC Comics fans (especially those of the New 52 era), that will sound like the right sort of interpretation of Wonder Woman. The character's compassion and love is the arguably her core defining characteristic, and if Gadot and Jenkins are on the same page about that aspect of the character, it stands to reason that the film they make will have a tone that reflects those sentiments.

That's all to say: even for a film set during WWI, Wonder Woman could definitely have the most inspiring and "heroic" feel of any DCEU movie so far. Footage from the first trailer definitely hint at some possible big "inspiration" moments, such as the scene of Wonder Woman climbing out of the trenches, to take on an onslaught of machine gun fire with her shield. For some fans, moments like that could be everything they didn't get from Captain America: The First Avenger.

The DCEU continues with Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
