Wonder Woman Director Reveals That Major Comedic Moment Was Improvised

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains mild spoilers for Wonder Woman.

As hoped, Wonder Woman delivered the goods in the first cinematic outing for the world's most popular superheroine. As expected, the film was packed with plenty of action and inspiration but may have caught some off guard was its humor.

While some of that humor was surely baked into the script, at least one of the standout comedic moments was improvised on set by the actors. That moment took place on Themyscira after Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) arrived. There was an awkward moment when Diana (Gal Gadot) walked in on Trevor while he was bathing and, put on the spot, Trevor described himself as "above average."

"There was plenty of improvising," director Patty Jenkins recalled of shooting Wonder Woman during a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" session. "Great lines arrived every day, and particularly the boat scene, Chris Pine's entire riff about not being an "average" man was improvised on the spot - as were many other great moments.

"I encourage humor all the time!"

Embracing humor seems to have worked for Wonder Woman as the film's lighter tone when compared to its DC Extended Universe predecessors, without sacrificing the gravity of its themes, has been repeatedly noted by fans and critics alike.

Wonder Woman currently has an 88.09 ComicBook.com Composite Score. It also has a 4.40 out of 5 ComicBook.com user rating, making it the third-highest rated comic book movie ever among ComicBook.com readers.
