Agents Of SHIELD EP Hints At More Philinda Stories

Just a few days ago, Agents of SHIELD wrapped its fifth season with one of its most intense episodes yet. The drama ended its 'Agents of Hydra' arc with heart-breaking action, but all was not well for Agent Coulson's crew by the episode's end. The group found itself kidnapped by a mysterious group before fans later saw Phil Coulson up in space along on a strange spacecraft. For plenty of fans, they are now wondering just how the spy found himself up amongst the stars, and they have one other very important question: where exactly is Coulson's friend-turn-pseudo-love interest?

After all, fans did watch as both Phil and Melinda grew closer and even flexed their romantic muscles along the way. Now, the showrunner of Agents of SHIELD is talking about the couple's relationship and how their most recetn steps might hold them back.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jed Whedon and producers Jeffrey Bell and Maurissa Tachearoen opened up about whereAgents of SHIELD will go in the future. When asked about Philinda, here's what Whedon had to say about the couple's future:

"In classic May-Coulson fashion, they've managed to take a step in their relationship without actually stepping anywhere. What they agreed to at the end is sort of a reset and to take it one step at a time, but at the same time, they both admitted something they never actually spoke out loud. They both sort of said, "Maybe that was real," "Yeah, maybe that was." Classic May, they've managed to communicate without having much communication, so how that affects their relationship going forward should be interesting."

By the end of Agents of SHIELD's fifth season, both Phil and Melinda apparently admitted they had feelings for one another. However, the pair ultimately chose to step back from the vague confession and focus on ending AIDA's plot. Before the duo could get closure about their lingering feelings, the SHIELD gang were all rounded up by a shadowy organization which ultimately saw Phil shuttled off to space. When Agents of SHIELD returns, the duo will hopefully get to address the growing feelings which have sprung up between them. With FitzSimmons on the fritz and Daisy still heartbroken over Lincoln's death, Philinda could very well be the last ship Agents of SHIELD can steer for fans.
