Captain Marvel's Brie Larson On Why She Has To Get The Character Right

Captain Marvel is still a mystery to most, but Brie Larson is not one of those people. The actress is the lucky lady who'll bring Carol Danvers to life on the big screen in 2019, and the Oscar-winning star recently opened up about why it's so important she gets the standalone movie just right.

Entertainment Weekly caught up with Larson to talk about her upcoming project, The Glass Castle, and the star said she wants to do Captain Marvel right to thank the fans who've been so supportive of her.

"It feels like such a weight off my shoulders because I really don't like keeping secrets," she said, nodding to the secrecy which originally came with her MCU casting.

"The response was really positive, and that felt really cool. I mean, making movies is hard, and making films of that size is even harder. It requires so much physically, and it's a lot longer shoot, and there's also the pressure because this is a character that is incredibly inspiring to people and means a lot," Larson continued. "So you just want to get it right. I feel really excited about how everything is shaping up."

Fans are anxiously awaiting the first glimpse they will get of Captain Marvel in the MCU. ComicBook was told by one of the co-directors of Avengers: Infinity War that Carol will not appear in the upcoming film. Still, there is room for the former Air Force pilot to pop into the MCU prior to her solo debut. Ant-Man and the Wasp could peek into the film's retro-90s setting by diving into the Quantum Realm, and Avengers 4 is all but certain to feature the heroine is some respect.

For now, audiences can only wait until Marvel Studios loosens up on its Captain Marvel secrets. The film is slated to begin production in January 2018, so here's hoping Larson finds a way to feed fans a sneak-peek at her heralded role sooner rather than later.

Larson will headline Captain Marvel in 2019, with Samuel L. Jackson co-starring. Marvel recently brought on directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, responsible for Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind. Now that directors are in place and the lead star is already hitting the ground running, more casting news should soon follow.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming are both in theaters now, and will be followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
