As the Freeform network wades deep into the Marvel world with two upcoming series, fans are eager to learn more about their first show announced featuring the fan-favorite runaways known as Cloak & Dagger.

Series star Olivia Holt recently spoke with Huffington Post's teen-centric newsletter The Tea where she spoke about the challenges of playing Dagger in the new Marvel Television series.

"I am really looking forward to everyone seeing it," Holt said. "It's a really honest show, and even though it's about two superheroes, it really brings this truth behind kids who grow up in a broken home."

Marvel's various TV series tend to find a unique approach to the superhero drama, and Holt intimates that Cloak & Dagger will be no different and will respect the source material.

"For the audience who doesn't know about the comic, I think they're really going to love it," Holt said. "And for the audience that grew up reading the comics, I think they're going to love it even more."

This is Holt's first role in a superhero property, but the actor also relayed that it's one of the darkest roles she's played yet having come from various Disney Channel series and movies.

"It's definitely a challenge, but it's a good challenge for me. Working with Disney for as long as I did — it was the perfect place for me at that time. That's exactly what I needed to be doing and everything I needed to be learning," Holt said. "Now, moving onto other roles and darker material, it's giving me a chance to expand my range."

Freeform and Marvel have been keeping details about Cloak & Dagger under wraps, but we hope to learn more as we approach the upcoming premiere.

It is a coming-of-age series based on the beloved Marvel characters. Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) come from starkly different backgrounds, each growing up with a secret they never dared share with another soul.

Once a privileged little girl, Tandy Bowen watched as her family was destroyed by a disastrous storm that uprooted her life. Now in her late teens, an unexpected encounter with a boy named Tyrone sparks a life changing event.

Young Tyrone Johnson wanted nothing more than to prove he was fearless. But when everything he held close was taken away, life taught Tyrone to be afraid. Now older and more sheltered, Tyrone closes himself off. But when he meets a girl named Tandy his life changes forever.

The cast also includes Andrea Roth (Blue Bloods) as Melissa Bowen, Tandy's mom; Gloria Reuben (ER) as Tyrone's mother, Adina Johnson; Miles Mussenden (Bloodline) as Tyrone's father, Michael Johnson; Carl Lundstedt (Grey's Anatomy) as Liam, Tandy's partner in crime; James Saito (Life of Pi) as Dr. Bernard Sanjo, and J.D. Evermore (The Walking Dead) as Detective Connors.
