Utah Theaters Win Right to Serve Alcohol At 'Deadpool' Screening

Thanks to a strange law in Utah, a local theater faced a potential $25,000 fine for serving alcohol during a recent screening of Deadpool. Yes, really.

The law states that theaters cannot serve alcohol during movies that contain "simulated sex or full-frontal nudity," saying that the two join together for an "explosive combination."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a theater called Brewvies stood up to that law and served customers during a Deadpool screening, and the state was not happy about it. It threatened the theater with a hefty fine, but the theater fought back.

This week, Brewvies won the case. The ruling cited the First Amendment rights as the grounding for the decision.

What's even better is that Ryan Reynolds stepped in to help. The Deadpool star donated $5,000 to help the theater with the legal fees.

Deadpool may not fancy himself a hero, but he certainly is to the good people of Utah.
