The first R-rated superhero film Deadpool just won the Critics' Choice Award For Best Comedy!

Deadpool surprised us all and broke the box office with Ryan Reynolds starring as Marvel's Merc with the Mouth.

When Deadpool burst into theaters earlier this year, the NSFW romp thrilled fans with its quips and raunchy sense of humor. The film, which starred Ryan Reynolds as the mouthy mercenary, reimagined how an R-rated superhero flick could work with audiences.

In 2016, films like Captain America: Civil War and Deadpool busted box-office records with their massive hauls, and DC Films was no slacker either. The studio rolled out Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad to adoring fans, and now some of its actors are getting recognized for their work.

The Critics' Choice Awards are given out annually by the BFCA and BTJA to honor the finest in cinematic and television achievement. The BFCA is the largest film critics' organization in the United States and Canada, representing more than 300 television, radio and online critics. BFCA members are the primary source of information for today's film-going public. Historically, the Critics' Choice Awards are the most accurate predictor of the Academy Award nominations.

Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
