Does This Detail In Civil War Mark When Captain America Quits The Avengers?

Earlier this year, Captain America: Civil War hit theaters with a massive bang. The blockbuster blew away box-office expectations to become one of the highest-grossing movies of the year. So, if you have not seen the film yet, you might be in the minority. If you have seen it, then you are well aware that Captain America winds up leaving the Avengers by the end. However, it appears as if Steve Rogers was anticipating his departure from the group even before he challenged the Sokovia Accords.

One sharp Reddit user @Johnny_Jax noticed a continuity error that might point to when Captain America decided to quit the Avengers. The user noticed that the hero sported an Avengers patch on his costume when he was fighting Crossbones in Nigeria. However, when Captain America visits Bucky Barnes (AKA: The Winter Soldier) at the latter's apartment, his pin has been removed. And, for the duration of the movie, the Avengers patch remains missing from Steve's get-up.

Of course, the missing patch could simply signal Captain America's hesitancy to carry out his illicit plans while sporting the Avengers' logo. The hero does recognize how weighty the symbol is, and Steve respects the responsibility that comes with being a member of the team. However, when the squad's prerogatives clash with the hero's morals, Steve ultimately decides he is better off leaving the Avengers.

In Captain America: Civil War, the hero did much more than just leave the Avengers. By the film's end, he even relinquishes his title as Captain America. The hero drops his iconic shield after a final showdown with Tony Stark's Iron Man, and the ex-patriot goes so far as to spring his followers from a government facility known as The Raft. With heroes like Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and Hawkeye on his side, Steve Rogers is poised to form an all-new superhero team who operates outside of the law.

But, sooner than later, the group will have to reunited when the Mad Titan rears his ugly purple head. Avengers: Infinity Wars promises to break down the barriers between the teams as all heroes will need to put aside their differences if they want to defeat Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet.

Marvel's Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly-formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity, but after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark's surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

The film stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd and Frank Grillo, William Hurt and Daniel Brühl. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and produced by Kevin Feige. Louis D'Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee served as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
