Guardians Of The Galaxy: Concept Art Reveals Matthew McConaughey's Ego Design

Earlier this month, the Marvel Cinematic Universe saw itself expand by one thanks to the Guardians of the Galaxy. The ragtag team of galactic heroes rushed back into theaters with a much-anticipated sequel. Star-Lord return to cinemas with comrades in tow, leading fans on a journey which saw the rogue meet his biological father. Kurt Russell brought Ego the Living Planet to life, and the character schmoozed up to Star-Lord after being estranged for years. Not long ago, new designs for Ego hit the Internet, and the concept art shows another Hollywood star taking on the role.

Over on Reddit (via MCU Exchange), fans found concept art of Matthew McConaughey as Ego the Living Planet. The low-quality photo may be hard to make out, but the image can be found in the photo gallery below.

Looking at the picture, fans can see that much of McConaughey's design for Ego differs from what Russell wore in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel. The characters both sport similar arm gauntlets, but that is about the end of the designs' overlaps. Russell's costume was more earthy than this new piece as the actor donned brown and tan tones. McConaughey was envisioned in an all-black costume, and its sleek fit screams villainous intent.

Yeah, so maybe it was a good thing the design got scrapped. That would have given a major hint at Ego and his ulterior motives a bit too early.
