Director James Gunn Teases Possible Guardians Of The Galaxy Spinoff

Though the world was introduced to the modern incarnation of Marvel's premiere space-faring adventurers in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, many were unaware of the previous version of the team that debuted in the late '60s comic books.

But now that Stakar, Aleta, Martinex, Charlie-27, Krugarr, and Mainframe debuted as Ravagers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, director James Gunn has hinted that we might see a standalone movie featuring the original team.

"There's always discussion with Ravagers," Gunn said to Collider. He then clarified it wouldn't be a different version of the Guardians, "it would be The Ravagers."

Much like seeing the Skrulls in the MCU, Gunn is hopeful that a Ravagers spinoff will happen.

"It's always a possibility. I would be excited."

While the current lineup of Ravagers doesn't consist of any household names from Marvel Comics, the Guardians of the Galaxy members were not popular characters until their movie debuted in theaters. In fact, it's part of the reason why Gunn was interested in helming the franchise in the first place.

But the Ravagers does pack some star power in its characters with Sylvester Stallone, Miley Cyrus, Ving Rhames, and Michael Rosenbaum counted among their members. That's a cast with the potential to carry a spinoff or two.

Hopefully we see more of the Ravagers beyond the inevitable Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is slated to be the final film in the franchise's trilogy.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits Digital HD August 8 and will be released on Blu-ray and DVD August 22.

Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
