Here's Why The Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtracks Don't Play In Movie Order

There's a perfectly reasonable explanation behind why the soundtracks for both Guardians of the Galaxy films don't play in the same order as they do in the movies.

According to the franchise's director, James Gunn, the order in which the songs play is entirely intentional. In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Gunn addressed the very meticulous order in which the soundtracks are arranged, and why they might not always line up with the film.

"I think [it's] because the order they are in in the movie is different than the order that they work well," Gunn revealed. "As somebody who has put mixtapes together their whole life, the order of the songs in the movie doesn't exactly work in the same way. So that's why."

Gunn added that creating an emotional journey for the entire soundtrack was a priority, particularly with the soundtrack to Vol 2., as opposed to just presenting the songs in chronological order.

"When you're putting songs together, there's a flow to the way that the songs work together," Gunn explained. "And if you put them in the order in the movie, in winds up being too pop-y up front, and too dark on the back half. It gets a little darker as it goes on, especially Vol. 2."

Considering the success of both soundtracks, and the hype surrounding Vol. 3's songs, it's safe to say that Gunn's dedication towards the film's music has paid off.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hit Digital HD this Tuesday, August 8th, and will be releasing on DVD and Blu-ray on August 22nd.
